WHAT IS A SEGMENTAL DYSFUNCTION?
In an ideal spine, the segments of the spine (vertebrae) should be aligned and balanced in relation to each other. A Segmental Dysfunction, also known as a Vertebral Subluxation Complex is an abnormal three-dimensional shift/misalignment of a segment in the spine.
At CORRECTIVE CHIROPRACTIC, we are not expecting anyone to have a spine with absolutely 100% perfect segmental alignment. Initially, minor shifts of spinal segments are not a cause for concern. However, significant segmental shifts beyond what is considered to be normal can put abnormal stress on its surrounding muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, discs, and nerves – leading to one or more of what we refer to as Secondary Conditions or symptoms.
